Rancho Sierra is not a REAL golf course.
As a business owner, I want to be engaged with our customers. To hear what they actually think, or want. But do I really?
Because when I am at the course, talking with customers, I’ve heard,
“I haven’t been here in a while because I wanted to play at a REAL golf course.” Ouch!
“Your pro shop looks like a Dollar Store.” Pow!
“I don’t play at Rancho Sierra because it’s too short.” Bam!
But you know what? That’s okay. Rancho Sierra is not a real golf course. When I watch the PGA Tour events and see gorgeous, lush courses (well, except for Chambers Bay this year :-), I too sigh and imagine that I could transform Rancho Sierra into one of those courses while keeping our greens fees at their current level.
But dreaming aside, here’s what I want to hear from our customers:
Rancho Sierra has the best value.
Rancho Sierra has the best customer service.
I have the best time at Rancho Sierra.
And who are our customers? Probably not the scratch or low handicap golfer. Probably not the long ball hitter. And probably not the well heeled country club golfer. And those customers might not care about what we are working to provide at Rancho Sierra. They may want what the PGA Tour courses provide.
Again, that’s okay. Because Rancho Sierra is not a real golf course.
