Are you ready for Rancho Sierra Golf Course’s annual Glowball Tournament, to be held 9/5, this Saturday night?
This popular tournament format consists of nine holes of golf (with carts) in the late afternoon followed by a dinner break as the sun sets. Then the fun really starts. The course is lit up with glow sticks illuminating tee boxes, flag sticks, hazards, and holes to help light the way. Golfers are outfitted with glow necklaces, and special glow golf balls. For this second nine, pull carts are recommended, as carts are not allowed on the course after dark.
Teams will play using a 4-man scramble. For those unfamiliar with this game, all four golfers in the team will tee off. The team members will choose the best of the four shots, and then all will play their next shot from that location. This continues through the remainder of the hole and the single score is recorded for the team. This format is used for the entire tournament.
Handicaps are not used in 4-man scrambles, and the scramble format can be great for team members of varying strengths. For instance, a team with a couple players who are great at tee shots pair well with a couple players who excel at the short game. This gives all players an opportunity to contribute, while eliminating the pressure of hitting a great shot every time.
