Welcome!

Hi everyone,

It’s been an interesting January so far.  Beautiful weather, then rain, then beautiful weather again.  Go figure.  Our gorgeous cover photo this month is a sunrise photo from Shirley.  Aren’t mornings in the Antelope Valley fantastic?  Thanks, Shirley!

As some of you may know, I’ll be taking over the management of Desert Aire Golf Course starting Feb 1st.  Chris McEnaney is moving to Kerrville, TX, where she will be enjoying her time away from the stresses of running a business. I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know her as we’ve been working on the transition.  I hope you will all join me in wishing Chris the best as she moves on to her next chapter.

As for me, I’m really looking forward to the challenge of running the two nine hole courses in the Antelope Valley.  Wish me luck!

On another note, some of you may know I love technology.  We just installed a weather station on the clubhouse roof and I am completely geeking out.  The station is on the Internet, so if you want up-to-date weather conditions at the course, numerous weather apps and sites will give you the current conditions at Rancho Sierra.  Personally, I use the app, Wunderground.  I plan to get the feed onto our web site soon.

News from the Clubhouse

Well January roared in and we finally got some much-needed rain. But I can honestly say we can do without the cold frost delayed mornings. We have hand warmers here that last up to 6 hours they certainly keep the hands warm I use them myself. Also, we have new R.S logo jackets so warm all of us ladies inside the club house purchased one just to keep warm on those early mornings or late nights putting away the carts. Burrr Cold!!

We also carry a variety of different balls, tees, clubs and odds and ends also gloves to keep your hands warm We serve Hot chili to put on those hot dogs on the cooler days, also if your on the course and are getting hungry you can call the pro shop (around the 6th hole) and request a hot dog or sandwich and we will do our best to have it ready for you when you come in to sit and eat or take it with you while you make the turn.

If you have a complaint about something on the course, be it the players or the course itself please talk to the starters and we will try and go over the problem with you and find a way to improve your golfing experience. We do have a suggestion box that the owner Michele reads and will try her best to fix the problem or get something in here that you request or just change something that needs to be changed all ideas are taken seriously.

Tee times can be made by going on our Web Site www.ranchosierragolf.com we take tee times up to a month in advance also call us to make one. We go on Twitter every morning to update the weather, frost delay, if we have to close, or for any new information as in tournaments, specials etc.

What’s New and Exciting?

With The Holidays here, many of you have asked that bearded delivery man for some new Golf Gadgets to help you with your swing…Oh the mess I’m in – What have you got yourself into?   Now after every swing on the range…After every shot on the course you’re looking at your tempo/swing speed or inputting which club you are using onto your watch or app to see how far you hit it or how far is that hazard to the right?   At the end of the day, you take a deep sigh and look at all that great data you’ve gathered and wonder why you shot the same score as always and haven’t gained any yardage or hit any more greens?   Truth be told that if you don’t know how to break down the information and know how those numbers came about, it will not help you in any way and might actually create confusion.   There is an art to reading that data and being able to troubleshoot or reinforce why the numbers look so good…Here is a great example: Many individuals look at swing speed and say in order to generate more speed I’m going to have to swing harder! Myth! If you look at many of the students’ swings which I post on Instagram/Facebook/Twitter you will notice that their club head speed is only moderate but due to their set up/club path and full finishes their smash factor gets the ball out there accurately with almost no effort.   Knowing how a swing’s sequence works helps to analyze the back spin/side spin/launch angle/drop angle, etc. Without the proper training and experience you may be assuming that you are correcting or reinforcing good habits and might be rehearsing incorrect muscle memory.   So before you try to decipher all that valuable info see an instructor/coach/club fitter that can guide you in the right direction before it’s too late!   Be Good To Each Other!
